TL;DR
Nomad Ink is a design studio that started in 2004 in Brazil, then Portugal to study, and now works from Austin. Open to select projects.

Nomad Ink Studio was founded in 2004. The first chapter comprised nearly ten years of full-time cross-cultural graphic design practice out of Curitiba, in South Brazil. Running an agile and remote studio well before those terms meant what they do today. The studio had a landline, with one line USA, the other Brazil. The studio mixed design for international clients, mostly identity systems for startups & small businesses in Washington D.C., teaching design online in San Francisco, local cultural projects, lecturing and conducting workshops at Latin American Universities and conferences, and conducting visual research internationally (we call those study tours, and will get to that later). That first chapter closed when the studio moved to Portugal in the early 2010s and Nomad Ink's co-founder's earned their Masters degrees in communication design & editorial design respectively.

Nomad Ink is Tyler Littlejohn Johnson and Flávia Sanches. Between the two of them, they have designed thousands of projects, created books, websites, invitations, posters, signage, & presented material to 1000's of students & professionals. They thrive on making thoughful, meaningful work, and have created & implemented campaigns for some of the biggest brands in the world. They care about people's stories, human rights, and value being kind. They have lived-in & visited 34 countries and counting. The two founders are currently employeed as design lead and art directer at prominent North American companies, living in Austin, TX since 2015.

One of the core premises of the studio is to engage with passionate individuals and do work that has a cultural or personal meaning. While Nomad Ink is building out the new site, you can visit Tyler and Flavia's portfolios or keep in touch below:

SPEAKING > N DESIGN

Brasilia, Brazil, 2006

Picture 5

Our first study tour captured a 5-month research project in Europa with a presentation to 700 students at N Design in Brasilia, we had a line around the door and gave the presentation a second time. It explored Italian craftspeople in Venice, London Type Tour, Cycladian art from Greece and more. The talk went in tandem with the online project, Europa '05.

Presenting our second Study Tour in 2008, this time at TMDG in Mar Del Plata, Argentina in 2009. Our talk was called "Manufacturing Creativity," and took a look at the state of design in Asia, as we had just completed a 2 month work abroad, first in China together with ~30 mostly-American designers, followed by 1 month of Nomad Ink conducting research and interviews solo in Bangkok. Audience was ~5,000 designers and students from all over Latin America, by far our largest crowd.
