ABOUT

Who we are, services, clients, published, exhibited, travels, speaking, conferences, teaching.

Nomad Ink Studio was founded in 2004, starting with nearly a decade of full-time, cross-cultural design practice in Curitiba, Brazil. The studio worked with international clients, primarily creating identity systems for startups and small businesses in Washington D.C., teaching design online at AAU's Master program via AAU in San Francisco, and conducting cultural projects and workshops across Latin America, Europe and Asia. In the early 2010s, the studio relocated to Portugal, where the co-founders earned their Master's degrees in communication and editorial design.

Nomad Ink is led by Tyler Littlejohn Johnson and Flávia Sanches, who have designed thousands of projects, from books and websites to posters and signage. Their work aims to move hearts and minds through storytelling and engagement for some of the most pressing issues of our time. Having lived in or visited 30+ countries, they now reside in Austin, TX, where they work as design lead and art director at prominent North American companies.

The studio is focused on creating meaningful work with cultural or personal significance. While Nomad Ink continues to build out our new site, you can check out Tyler and Flávia's portfolios or get in touch below:

If you have a design project that requires assistance, we are most appreciative of your consideration, and we look forward to discussing the details with you.

SPEAKING > N DESIGN

Brasilia, Brazil, 2006

Picture 5

Our first study tour captured a 5-month research project in Europe with a presentation to 700 students at N Design in Brasilia, we had a line around the door and gave the presentation a second time. It explored Italian craftspeople in Venice, London Type Tour, Cycladian art from Greece and more. The talk went in tandem with the online project, Europa '05.

Presenting our second Study Tour that we conducted in Asia in 2008, this time presenting at TMDG in Mar Del Plata, Argentina in 2009. Our talk was called "Manufacturing Creativity," and took a look at the state of design in Asia, as we had just completed a 2 month work abroad, first in China together with ~30 mostly-American designers, followed by 1 month of Nomad Ink conducting research and interviews solo in Bangkok. Audience was ~5,000 designers and students from all over Latin America, by far our largest crowd.
